Jane Simmons, B.Sc.O.T.,O.T.(C)
Director/Owner IOHS, Occupational Therapist

Jane graduated from Dalhousie University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. Since 1990, she has specialized in vocational rehabilitation in hospital-based team and single discipline programs until the establishment of Integrated Occupational Health Services (IOHS) in March 1994. As director/owner, Jane is committed to quality assurance in all services provided by IOHS.

Jane has had extensive training in vocational rehabilitation including a professional residency program from Roy Matheson and Associates, ergonomic training from the University of Michigan, along with numerous workshops, conferences and seminars in assessment, treatment, and injury prevention programming. She is certified to administer the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS), a standardized assessment of homemaking and everyday living activities. She has also completed an ISO 9000 internal auditor course to guide the improvement of our quality assurance program.

Well respected in her field, Jane serves as a leading industry professional. In this capacity she has provided formal presentations to many groups, including the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council, Occupational and Environmental Medical Association of Canada, and on numerous occasions, the OT Atlantic Conferences. In 1996, she was honoured with the Times Mirror Book Prize from fellow Dalhousie alumni for her contribution to the profession of occupational therapy in the area of vocational rehabilitation in the Atlantic region.

Current memberships include the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT), the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board (NLOTB), the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), and The Rotary Club of St. John's Northwest. Jane is currently a Co-Investigator in a Memorial University of Newfoundland research project related to cumulative trauma disorders in snow crab processing workers. She was an active member of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission’s Vocational Rehabilitation Liaison Committee from 1995 to 2001. Jane served as president of NLAOT from 1996 to 1997. She is a past board member of the Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest and the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council.

At IOHS, Jane specializes in functional assessments, pre-employment screenings, return to work services, job site analyses, injury prevention and education programs, ergonomic consulting, train the trainer programs, home demands analysis, case management, medical-legal evaluations, and expert witness testimony.

Carrie Orser-Williams, B.Sc.O.T.,O.T.(C)
Occupational Therapist

Carrie graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1992. From 1992 to 1996, Carrie worked as an occupational therapist for the St. John’s Health Care Corporation. In this capacity she gained extensive experience in the areas of acute care physical medicine, adult rehabilitation, geriatrics, and vocational rehabilitation. Other responsibilities included program planning and supervisory activities. In 1996 she joined the professional staff of Integrated Occupational Health Services.

As an undergraduate at Dalhousie, Carrie conducted research on "The Use of Work Schedule Modification to Enhance Employment Outcomes for Persons with Severe Disability". This work was published in the Oct/Nov/Dec 1994 issue of Journal of Rehabilitation.

In 1994, Carrie completed Roy Matheson’s Industrial Rehabilitation Professional Residency Program. In April 1996, she was trained in the Isernhagen Work Systems approach. This training has given her expertise in models of practice, chronic pain, physical and functional assessment, job analysis, work hardening, report writing, and medical testimony.
Other applications of Carrie’s expertise have included a teaching term with the College of the North Atlantic. Under the Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy Assistant Program, Carrie prepared and instructed a course in disabling conditions.

Current memberships include the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT), the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), and the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board (NLOTB).

Kelly Pettis, B.Sc.O.T., O.T.(C)
Occupational Therapist

Kelly graduated from Dalhousie University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. Since graduation, she has worked as an Occupational Therapist, providing a variety of vocational rehabilitation services to clients. In 2002, she joined the team of professionals at Integrated Occupational Health Services (IOHS).

To date, Kelly's continuing education in the area of vocational rehabilitation has included a seminar in St. John's, Newfoundland titled "Practical Management of Musculoskeletal Disorders", a conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia titled "Return to Work: Building Blocks for Success", participating in an inservice and teleconference regarding psychosocial issues in return to work and attending inservices on the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission topic of "Early and Safe Return to Work."
Kelly is currently a full-time member of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board (NLOTB).

At IOHS, Kelly's responsibilities include functional assessments, pre-employment screenings, return to work services, job site analyses, injury prevention and education programs, ergonomic consulting, home demands analysis, and case management.

Andrea Hutchens, B.Sc., BMR O.T.(C)
Occupational Therapist

Andrea graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1999 with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Occupational Therapy. Since graduation, she has worked as an Occupational Therapist providing a variety of vocational rehabilitation services to clients. In January 2004, she joined the team of professionals at Integrated Occupational Health Services (IOHS).

Continuing Education includes a variety of vocational rehabilitation workshops in the area of functional capacity evaluations, work conditioning and work hardening through Roy Matheson and Associates. She has also attended numerous workshops on ergonomics, low back injury prevention, foot biomechanics and orthotics fabrication courses.

Current memberships include The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT), The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), and The Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board (NLOTB).

At IOHS, Andrea's responsibilities include functional assessments, pre-employment screenings, return to work services, job site analyses, injury prevention and education programs, ergonomic consulting, home demands analysis, and case management. She also provides outpatient services in the area of splinting and orthotics.

Anne Connolly, B.Kin (Hons.), CFC, NLCK
Kinesiologist

Anne graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Kinesiology Honours (Co-operative) in 2002. Since graduation, she has worked as a Kinesiologist, providing a variety of vocational rehabilitation services. In July 2003, Anne joined the team of health professionals at IOHS.

Anne brings to IOHS 1 1/2 years of clinical experience as a Work Hardening Supervisor. She has experience in the development, implementation, and supervision of work hardening and work conditioning programs that are designed to facilitate clients' rehabilitation and return to work. She also has extensive experience in the completion of job site analyses.

Anne is currently in the process of writing a certification exam to become qualified as a Professional Fitness and Lifestyle Consultant (PFLC) through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology. She is currently a Certified Fitness Consultant (CFC) and has recently completed a low back injury clinic presented by Dr. Stewart McGill. Anne is currently a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Kinesiology Association (NLKA).

At IOHS, Anne is involved with the development and monitoring of work conditioning, work hardening, enhanced fitness programs, and fitness centre services. She also performs job site analyses.
